INTERMEDIATE ALPS
Chamonix is a must for any trail runner. The town sits at the foot of the majestic snow covered peak of Mont Blanc, standing 4810m tall. The valley hosts the world famous UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc) race series and is a mecca for any outdoor enthusiast. The buzz of the town and the beauty of the trails provide an inspiring backdrop to our Intermediate Alps trip.
Â
This weekend follows on from our Introduction to the Alps, and is perfect for those looking to build on their mountain experience and ability. You will be on the trails for most of the day, stopping for a picnic lunch on route. This enables us to explore higher trails above the Chamonix valley which offer awe inspiring views.
Â
Each day your guide will look at advancing your techniques on uphills and downhills, making you a more proficient trail runner. Along the way, we bring the wild to life, with information about the local history, flora, fauna and geography. Our guides are all experienced trail runners, often ranking in local and world trail events, as well as undertaking solo adventures. So, this makes an excellent opportunity to ask questions and get some inside tips on how to succeed on alpine trails.
Â
On the Friday evening the group meets for dinner with the Run the Wild Team. It’s a great weekend to make new friends and enjoy alpine trail running at its best. As with all Run the Wild holidays, all you have to do is book your flights, turn up and run – we will take care of the rest!
Â
A deposit of £200 is taken at the time of sign-up with the balance taken 6 weeks before the trip is due to start. Let us know if you prefer to schedule payments following your deposit.

Check in from 4pm but you can use the hotel facilities from any point during the arrival day. Group welcome at 6.30pm at the hotel, followed by dinner in a highly rated restaurant in Chamonix at 7.30pm.
Day 1:
Starting around 9am we lead you on a beautiful trail that provides stunning views over the Chamonix valley. Since we have the whole day out on the trails we have time to make our way up to the higher balcony paths, some 800 metres above the valley floor. Today we teach you trail running techniques to build your confidence. Following lunch we take some beautiful paths back down to the valley in time to finish around 3pm. This gives you time to unwind back at the hotel.
Day 2:
We lead you on another beautiful route providing another perspective on the Chamonix valley and surrounding peaks. Again we seek out stunning balcony paths which provide breath taking views. With glaciers almost within touching distance this is another unforgettable day of running. We take a beautiful gentle run down to the hotel to finish around 3pm. This leaves you time to take one last dip in the pool before taking transport back to Geneva. If you wish to stay longer ask us for the hotel rate.
GETTING THERE
Transport to/from Chamonix via Geneva can be booked with one of the many minibus operators, such as Chamexpress, Mountain Drop-Offs, Alpybus or Swiss Tours. The journey takes around 1.25hrs and needs to be booked before travelling.
ACCOMMODATION
2 nights in the central 4* spa hotel Le Refuge des Aiglons (or similar alternative) including breakfast each morning, based on sharing a twin room. You can request a single room (supplement applicable). Amenities include the spa with heated outdoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. The hotel also has an outdoor space to relax in, with views of Mont Blanc.
