Ever got fed up with doing extra distance in a race because you took the wrong turn?! Always just following the people ahead of you? Or maybe you just want to get to grips with map reading. In this series we will be teaching you navigation methods as well as practical tips of how to stay on the right path in wild areas of the UK and Europe as well as understanding how this can practically relate to trail running. We all hear far too often of people getting lost in the hills either in races or just indeed on leisurely hikes. Even a GPS has limited capacity in route finding but with the right knowledge you can be the ultimate GPS!

On this morning workshop you will be taught the essentials of navigating with a map by a qualified International Mountain Leader and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Assessor. The first part of the morning is based near Musette Cafe, in the quintessentially English village of Aldbury. Once you've learnt some of the basics we move onto the trails before you get a chance to test your knowledge on the trails. (Please note this workshop is based entirely outdoors due to COVID rules).

The event is easily accessible, just 40 minutes North West of London by rail or road and there is free on-site parking for all runners. All abilities are catered for at this event and although the workshop is aimed at runners, we will be walking the routes.

You will need to arrange your own transport to the start of the adventure in Aldbury, but there are regular trains from London Euston to Tring Station which take around 40 minutes and is only a short walk to the meeting point. There is also an onsite free car park should you prefer to drive. Accommodation is available nearby, please get in touch if you would like any recommendations.

The workshop is open to all abilities, runners and walkers alike.

The event will start at 9am, at the Musette's, Aldbury which has free parking and is walking distance from Tring Station with direct train connections to London Euston. The event will finish around midday (full details in your booking pack).

"Conquered my fear of getting lost yesterday with RtW brilliant Navigation Essentials session. After many years of following others on walks and now believing I was way too old to learn new stuff - course leader Simon had faith and I’m now ready to be let loose with a map and lead! He was fantastic- explained clearly, lots of tips, techniques and practice, an interesting and fun morning! Lovely group, great when’s the next event?!" Jo, May 2021

"Thanks Simon for a great session this morning and the summary email with useful signposting to apps and resources. Came away feeling much more confident that I wasn’t as bumbling as I thought when it came to map reading and to know what to look out for and the importance of all the elements covered and combining them to make an accurate assessment of the route/location. Really looking forward to testing myself over the coming months." Emma, May 2021

"Thank you so much to Simon for the navigation essentials course this morning. It was both informative and fun.
