Moving to the country is supposed to be a change of life, but for Wes, moving to the Chilterns in 2014 really did transformed his whole outlook. From an inconsistent but regular pavement pounder around the streets of North London, he discovered the sheer joy of hitting the trails and has never looked back.
Back in his London days, Wes had one pair of road shoes. Now…. Well his family would say that he has a trainer problem. Of course, for Wes, each shoe has a different purpose and is uniquely suited for a different kind of mud!
The great thing about hitting the trails is it gives you the love of running and strength to take on whatever challenge you want. Since getting bitten by the bug, Wes helped found Tring parkrun as well as taking on 6 road marathons, 6 ultra distance races and numerous shorter races and events. Every year he hopes to a chip a bit more of his PBs and maybe one day he really will get under 3:30 for marathon and 1:30 for a half…. Maybe.
All that being said, the thing he loves more than anything is running with friends and introducing new people to running. For Wes, if you run, you’re a runner, whatever form your running takes.
