Andy started running in 2009, a few years after he hung up his football boots and realised that he needed to do something else to stay fit. Having loathed the laps of the pitch involved in pre-season training he was astonished to find that he loved running around the Ashridge trails.
All types of running appeal to Andy (except the treadmill) and he has dabbled in almost everything over the years: road races, ultras, marathons (39, including one dressed as a rhino) and LDWA events. Andy’s proudest achievement is representing Hertfordshire in the County Fell Running Championships in 2018 when almost everyone else was busy. He firmly believes that the organisers of the London Marathon analyse his STRAVA data to set the Good For Age time five minutes out of reach whenever he enters a new age group. It is not a coincidence that Andy’s PBs all hail from 2021 after the pubs had been shut for a year.
Andy’s first love remains the local trails. Most days involve a few miles through the woods, enjoying again the breathtaking views and reaping the benefits for mind and body.
